Grace Line Poster and Ad Collection: What became later Grace Line originated in 1882 in the establishment of a regular line of sailing vessels between Peru and New York. Grace establishes a regular service of steamers in 1893 , creating a subsidiary, the New York & Pacific Steamship Co. , sailing under the British flag because before 1905 , the boats built outside of the United States could not be registered in this countries. Service under the American flag began in 1912 with the Atlantic & Pacific Steamship Company (Wikipedia)
