Transatlantica Italiana Poster and Ad Collection
Transatlantica Italiana Poster and Ad Collection: Transatlantica Italiana S.A. di Navigazione was acquired by Hamburg America Line when they purchased Ligure Brasiliana in 1913, but was registered under the Italian flag. In 1914 the name was changed to Transatlantica Italiana and in 1915, following the entry of Italy into the Great War, an Italian board of directors was formed and all German held shares were purchased. About a year later, control was sold to the Ansaldo group. Services were operated between Italy and New York with some calls at Lisbon, Gibraltar, Azores and Boston and between Italy and South America. After the collapse of the Ansaldo group and a deterioration in trading conditions, the company gradually sold their ships and was eventually wound up in 1934. (TheShipList)
